The Invest Growth Fund is a new £5m venture capital
fund that has been set-up to invest in start-up and early-stage
businesses based in Northern Ireland.
The Fund will make numerous 'seed' and early stage investments over
the next five years in companies and business models that can
demonstrate high growth potential, and where the investment can
add real value.
Companies need not necessarily have global ambitions, but they
must have the potential to significantly impact their chosen sector
and the management must demonstrate a clear understanding of their
reachable market.
The Fund is looking to build a balanced and diversified portfolio,
investment prospects will be from outside the higher education
environment but may have originated from a university or other
academic institution.
The Fund Manager, E-Synergy, will principally be looking for
companies with compelling, scalable high growth business propositions.
Evidence of innovation (technology based or otherwise) and/or
first-mover advantage would score highly, as would early sales
or demonstrable customer traction.
The Fund will usually be the first institutional investor in a
company, after friends and family, and typically it will invest
between £50k and £125k frequently alongside private sector investors.
In one or two cases the Fund can invest as part of a bigger public
sector funded package (candidates for such packages will be
required to meet additional criteria). As a shareholder, the Fund
can go on to invest up to another £125k in later rounds of finance.
The Invest Growth Fund is financed by Invest NI, and independently
managed by E-Synergy, a commercial venture capital fund manger based
in London. For more information about InvestNI and the other programmes
